The St Helena Bay ARTS, CRAFTS + FOOD MARKET team is hugely excited by our forthcoming 2 markets – both taking place in the next 10 days!

Our first market combines with Shelley Point Hotel’s “MOVIE on the GREENS” event on Thursday 16th December. Our Market kicks off this event from 3pm – 7pm and brings you a delightful selection of local arts, crafts & foodie offerings all set in the beautiful surroundings of the hotel. This will be followed by Christmas carols, braii, entertainment, & culminates in a picnic & outdoor movie screening. What a great way to start the holiday season off!

Our second Market is the BIG XMAS MARKET at the Municipal Hall on Saturday 18th December10am – 2pm. Here you will find an even greater array of stallholders, combined with wors braai, chips, pancakes & cool drinks. This promises to be a day not to be missed!

Paternoster’s 3rd Heritage Festival

Paternoster’s 3rd Heritage Festival takes place on 24 September 2010

After two successful festivals in a row Paternoster’s volunteer committee is doing it again! The 3rd festival takes place on 24 September 2010 from 9AM till late afternoon, this year on bigger ground on and around the fishmarket.

The Paternoster Heritage Festival’s local volunteer-committee-vision is to pledge enough money to be able to take grade 7 pupils of St Augustine Primary School for educational trips, ie to the Fossil Park, to Cape Town to visit Two Ocean Aquarium, Izeko museum, etc.

Highlights will be a number of adventurous competitions such as kreef bakkie rowing, bokkom skil, skattejag, Paternoster Pop Stars and more. Tools, cellphones, gift and accommodation vouchers, hampers and more are waiting for the winners of these entertaining competitions.

Arts & crafts as well as a White Elephant stall, water wise info, beach games, horse riding, kayaking for children, NSRI and SANCOB will be rounding off the family day. The dog detection units of SARS and SAPS will be doing demonstrations on how effective their 4-legged colleagues are working.

Local is lekker will guarantee a wide selection of typical West Coast food to delight your taste-buds in between.

In aim to raise money for the Paternoster Children’s Fund a fun walk along the coastline takes place prior to the festival. Join the “Trek to Paternoster” for 6 days (or part of it 18. – 23 September 2010, more details at end of article) and make this incredible journey of walking approx. 130 km along the beach from Elandsbaai to Paternoster an unforgettable experience in your life. After last year’s successful walk, the local Paternoster Village Tourism Vice-Chairperson and organiser Sandelé Wilkinson (083 211 1400) is challenging the amount of last year donations. Her vision is not to have only local walkers but also to have visitors from up country to be part of this event. As this fun walk is for charity, it is expected of each participant to donate a minimum of R 50/day to the Paternoster Children’s Fund. Registration forms can be obtained at [email protected] or [email protected] .

Paternoster Village Tourism is fully dependent on sponsors for competition prizes. Any donations from small to large, whether in cash or in form of T-Shirts, caps, vouchers, gift hampers, etc are welcome. Banking details are: ABSA Bank, account holder: Paternoster Village Tourism, EFT code: 632005, account number 921 091 3383. The public can also hand in their donations (also donations for White Elephant stall) to the Tourism Information Office in Paternoster.

A few stalls for the art & craft and food market are still available. Exhibitors can call the Tourist Information Office for more details on 022 752 2323 or email [email protected] .

Paternoster Cultural Guides

The Beach Camp has initiated a drive with the assistance of the Saldanha Bay Tourism Organisation to apply for government funding in order to train up local Paternoster Cultural Guides.

Paternoster is seeped in culture and local folklore and we really want this to be imparted to you, our clientèle, by means of the local community.

Unfortunately the petition did not get much response, but we thank all of you that did support this initiative. We will carry on trying various avenues to get this issue actioned.
